Updated demo reel

Saturday, September 15th, 2012

While I’ve been making small edits to it here and there, it’s been a while since I compiled a new demo reel. I’ve incorporated a couple of work pieces into it as well as added a more elaborate turntable sequence for the Fiat 500 model I posted a few weeks ago. Check it out!

New script for download – DB3D Manipulator Creator

Friday, September 7th, 2012

I’ve been dabbling with MEL from time to time and developed what I’ve found to be a pretty useful tool for any kind of rigging: a NURBS curve generator. It builds NURBs curves in a variety of shapes (square, circle, sphere, others) that can be used as control objects for anything. While I’m not an expert at MEL, I’ve found the script to be pretty stable and there’s also some error-checking built into it to make sure it can be run safely without damaging other objects in your scene. Give it a shot!

New renders – Fiat 500 Abarth turntable and poster

Saturday, August 18th, 2012

Over the past few weeks I’ve been working on a new project during my downtime: Modeling a Fiat 500 Abarth. I’ve never actually modeled a car before, and after watching Digital Tutors’ series on car modeling I wanted to give it a shot. I really had a lot of fun with this and I’m amazed how well it came out. All the studying with Mental Ray helped a lot, too! I plan on animating a proper sequence of this, but for now I’ve got a turntable render and a poster image:

I’ve finished my entry for June 2010′s 11 Second Club challenge. This was my first time submitting to a contest like this and I placed pretty well. I’ve added the final render to my video portfolio for your viewing pleasure! It’s also available on my Youtube channel. Take a look!

I’ll be participating in the July challenge and I’ll be starting on it much earlier so I’ve got the time to develop the concept better as well as polish the animation some more. Look forward to dailies as they come along!

New demo reel and rig video

Friday, April 2nd, 2010

This past week I revamped the Handyman rig I first created this past Fall.  I’ve posted a breakdown video demonstrating the rig’s functions in my video gallery.  I’ve also updated my demo reel; I swapped out a few animations to make room for the rig video.  Check them out!

Parkview Music Tech Commercial – Final

Monday, February 1st, 2010

After much gnashing of teeth, I’ve finished the final render and compositing on the Music Tech commercial.

Handyman – Final

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

Completed render of the Handyman motion test. This rig came out really well, and this kind of rig test was an interesting animation exercise. The Handyman himself is a rather bulky character, especially with his very large mallet arm, so maneuvering him against the wall was tricky.

Squoosh – Final

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

Finalized version of the Squoosh animation. Changes from the last update include tweaking the earlier parts of the lipsync and adjusting the timing for eye movements to feel more natural.
